There are plenty of things you can do at home to help your child improve their reading skills
1. Encourage your child to read, read, read! Children in fourth grade should read at least 30 minutes daily.
2. Model good reading habits yourself.
3. Provide a variety of reading materials at home - books, magazines, newspapers.
4. After your child reads a book, rent the movie. Be sure to compare the two!
5. Read the same book as your child and have "book chats"!
6. Involve your child in reading directions, recipes, and instructions.
7. Read aloud to your child to model proper fluency, attention to punctuation, and expression.
8. Encourage your child to make connections between their books and their life experience.
